ACAI TINCTURE
(tinctura EUTERPE OLERACEA)

from AMAZON HERBS®

Euterpe oleracea - Acai - Tropilab. Overview

Acai palm tree (Euterpe oleracea) produces small deep purple-black berries in bunches; they are low in sugar and regarded a "superfood" from the Amazon rainforest.
The round fruit (10% fruit pulp and 90% inedible nut) is edible and the pulp is used in wines, liqueurs, as a flavoring agent, colorant and as juice.
The berries are considered to be one of the most nutritious fruits of the Amazon Rainforest and are loaded with proteins and fatty acids! They have tremendous health benefits and are an excellent source of stamina and energy.
However; this is due not so much from the sugar (which is low), as well from the Omega 6 & 9 and other fats in the phyto-chemicals. Since Acai berries are high in fiber and calcium, they are also good for improving digestion.
The fruit pulp, with a deep purple coloration that makes it a rich source of polyphenols*, is used in manufacturing the herbal tincture.
Acai berry contains a high concentration of phytosterols, most of which are beta-sitosterol.
The powerful anthocyanins (ACN) and proanthocyanidins (PAC) in the fruit pulp are very strong antioxidants.
Acai juice or pulp has more antioxidants than cranberry, blueberry, orange, and apple!

Phytochemicals

Polyphenolics, anthocyanins (mainly cyanidin-3 glycoside) and antioxidant capacity (AOX).
Acai fruit (skin and pulp) contains essential fatty acids, (Omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid) and Omega-6) plus oleic acid (Omega-9); all are a good source for lowering Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) levels. Euterpe oleracea, Acai (Tropilab)
The berries contain also high levels of calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, manganese, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin E and phosporous; high concentrations of polyphenols and other trace elements. All this makes it an excellent antioxidant.
Anthocyanins make up about 10% of the overall antioxidant capacity.
Acai fruit also contains twelve flavonoid-like compounds (homoorientin, orientin, taxifolin, deoxyhexose, isovitexin, scoparin, as well asproanthocyanidins) and low levels of resveratrol.
Acai berries also contain Amino acids (tryptophan, theorine, leucine, lysine, praline and others).
Photosterols such as beta sitosterol** are also contained in the fruit.
Acai has high fat content (16%) and includes dietetic fiber.

Acai, Euterpe oleracea tincture Tropilab Pharmacology

Acai offers a rich source of bioactive poly-phenolics with apoptotic activity that also reduces cell proliferation in a model system for cancer.
It is also effective as an antioxidant*** (due to the polyphenolic compounds and the artherocyanin) for cardiovascular health; it is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory.
Anthocyanins are flavonoids (plant pigments) found in darker fruits that possess antioxidant properties. They help to defend the body from damage caused by unstable free radical molecules.
It has a surprisingly complete amino acid profile; acai berries contains every essential and most non-essential amino acids.

According to a study published in 2006 in the journal Vascular Pharmacology, Acai berries are rich in polyphenols, a type of flavonoid with antioxidant properties. The study shows that an extract of Acai berries can have vasodilatory effects, which are important in the regulation of blood pressure and it suggests the use of extract in the therapy of cardiovascular disease.
Anthocyanins (ACNs) and Proanthocyanidins (PACs) are very effective against Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
These phyto-chemicals seem to reduce the adhesion of E. coli bacteria to urinary tract walls.

Applications

Acai is an important immune booster and good for the overall health. It is traditionally used for anemia, astringent, blood-cleanser, diabetes, diarrhea, fever, gout, hemorrhages, hepatitis, jaundice, kidney problems, liver diseases, malaria, menstrual pain, and ulcers.
Other uses: it may inhibits leukemia; helps to lower cholesterol and it especially aids the cardiovascular system.

Dosage

Tincture: 1 - 3 ml daily (1 - 3 full droppers)

*    Polyphenols: plant-chemicals that may protect against some common health problems.
**  Beta sitosterol occurs naturally in plants; the extract of this relieves benign prostatic hyperplasia     (BHP), commonly known as prostate enlargement.
It also works effective against high cholesterol.
*** Antioxidants: substances that may protect cells against the effects of free radicals molecules      produced when the body breaks down food or by environmental exposures like tobacco and      radiation. Free radicals can damage cells and play a role in among others, heart disease and
     cancer.

Interactions

Acai may interfere with the working of certain chemotherapy drugs (due to its antioxidant effect).
